

Dr. Amy Crews Cutts is a nationally recognized thought leader and chief economist focused on providing strategic economic analysis rooted in practical business terms. She is the President and Chief Economist of AC Cutts & Associates LLC, an economics and policy consulting firm.
Previously, she served as Senior Vice President and Chief Economist at Equifax, and as Senior Director and Deputy Chief Economist at Freddie Mac. With over 30 years of economic analysis and policy development experience, Amy is a passionate advocate for expanding consumer and small business financial security and access to low-cost, non-predatory credit.
A polished and engaging presenter, Dr. Cutts is a sought-after speaker and panelist. She is a frequent guest on the Urban Institute’s housing trend webinars, Third Bridge Consumer Credit Forums, and Equifax and RiskSpan webinars. Often quoted in national print and broadcast media, she has also published extensively in academic journals and books on topics such as the economics of subprime lending, the impact of technology on foreclosure prevention, and the drivers of strategic mortgage default.
In 2015 and again in 2024, she won the Pulsenomics® Crystal Ball Award for Outstanding Performance in the Fannie Mae (formerly Zillow) Home Price Expectations Survey for her forecast accuracy. She also participates in the Wall Street Journal’s Survey of Leading Economists and the Blue Chip Economic Indicators® survey panel.
Dr. Cutts holds an MA and PhD in Economics from the University of Virginia and a BS in Applied Mathematics from Trinity University in San Antonio, TX. In 2015, she became a Certified Business Economist® (CBE), a distinction of professional achievement from the National Association for Business Economics (NABE).
She serves on the board of directors for the National Business Economics Issues Council, the policy advisory board for The Reinvestment Fund, and advisory boards for RiskSpan, Fairplay AI, and the National Foundation for Credit Counseling’s housing advisory board. She has taught economics at Georgetown University, Johns Hopkins University, and the University of Virginia, and was an Assistant Professor of Economics and Senior Researcher at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University.
In 2021, she co-authored Chopin Through the Window: An Autobiography with Franziska Stein.
